IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST COMPASSIONATE, THE MOST MERCIFULAll praise belongs to Allah; and may His peace and blessings be upon His Prophet, his household, his companions and all those who rightly follow their foot-steps. Ameen! In continuation of our discourse whether or not ebola is a curse or trial and our determination to first address ourselves to what constitutes “curse”; we shall, by Allah’s will, attempt to focus on the worse of all curse. Of course, Al-Qur’an-the Holy Scripture of Al-Islam gives several causes that can provoke curse. Worse among them is the tempering with Divine Revelation. Tempering with the Words of Allah includes, but not limited to concealing (failing and/or refusing to state or pronounce with particularity), misquoting or misinterpret its actual meaning or revealed purpose. Tempering with the Words of Allah in any form or manner has the tendency to mislead, misdirect and misguide thousands of people and cause them to fall prey to Divine curse. For example, Al-Qur’an-the Holy Scripture of Al-Islam makes emphatically clear thus:“Those who conceal anything of the clear teachings and true guidance which We (Allah-the Majestic) have sent down even through We (Allah) have made them clear in Our (Allah-the Almighty’s) Book, Allah curses such people and so do all who curse; those who repent and make amends and openly declare (what they had concealed), such shall We (Allah-the Most High) pardon for We are Much-Relenting, Most Compassionate. As for those who disbelieved and died and died disbelieving, surely the curse of Allah and of the angels and all persons is on them. Thus shall they abide and their chastisement shall not be lightened, nor shall they be given respite” (2:159-161.The just quoted verses address three categories of people. The first verse talks about those who have acquired certain religious knowledge but for selfish reason decided to hide what they have learnt. The second are people who initiated such spiritual misbehavior patterns, but later on cam to themselves, amended their attitudes and repented. And the third are those who totally failed or refused to make a stop and reflect over the past. There and then continuously engaged themselves in such wrong doings until death do them part. These three categories are, by and large, people who have acquired certain religious knowledge. The first and third categories are those who are doomed to moral degradation and spiritual perdition. As Al-Qur’an is all-comprehensive and all-pervasive in all aspects of its teachings, did not stop to the three categories outlined above. Rather, it goes further to elaborate on the other side of the coin. In doing so, the Scripture says: “And among them are also the unlettered folk who do not know about the Scriptures but cherish baseless wishes and merely follow their conjectures. Then, woe unto those who write out of the Scriptures with their own hands and then in order to make a trifling gain claim: ‘Thus is from Allah.’ Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they thus earn” (2: 78-79)Al-Qur’an is replete with several other Scriptural provisions pin-pointing at these kinds of theologians who cause a community or nation to fall prey to the Divine curse. However, time will not permit us detail all. Notwithstanding, we believe that what have enlisted here is enough to let us know that the attitude of misguided theologians plays pivotal roles in falling upon nations and peoples the curse of Allah, as well as the curse of the angels, human-kind and all other created beings. Indeed, it is no exaggeration that a critical conduct of survey in our social religious arena will certainly reveal the prevalence of these categories of people in the midst of our people. Hence, nothing behooves us but to be at watch-out of such character in order to avoid dragging us into self humiliation, degradation and destruction. This can be done through analytical scrutiny and objective alliance. The fact remains is that holders of the Divine Message can now be found in all religious groupings the adherents of the Torah, the Psalms (Zabu’r), the Injil (Gospel) and AlFurq’an (Al-Qur’an). The quoted verses also elucidate that the biggest felonious criminals are scholars who entertain the audacity of hiding the teachings contained in the Book of Allah. For such hiding has the tendency of limiting the delivery of the valuable Message either to the self or a certain class of people, instead of spreading it to the generality of humankind. In many, if not in all cases of withholding such Message, is designed to gain a price that is not only miserable but also despicable, nefarious and diabolical. Furthermore, such withholding has the tendency of corrupting the society and depriving humanity from appreciating the Message of Allah including its Moral Code of Decorum.Allah is the Creator, Cherisher, Sustainer of the universe and all within its realm. The Holy Scripture therefore makes it crystal and clear that none of the creature within this universe that was created aimlessly or purposelessly. These aims and objectives are clearly spelled-out in Allah’s Divine Scripture; their acceptance and adherence makes human valuable beings, something all aspire. One of the imperative rationales behind mandating scholars to deliver the Divine Message at all times, all areas and all causes, is that there would be among the listeners who will better understand the spiritual pros and cons of such message and make good use of same than the one who is engage in delivering it. No doubt, to filter such Message through selected members of one owns society to the exclusion of others is indeed act of naivety, malicious and mischievous. Of course, the prevalence of such misguided religious scholars, does not only demoralize the society, but also dump it into social chaos and carnage. To avoid the society falling prey to social tumult and destruction, Al-Islam enjoins every Muslim-male and female-old and young to seek for knowledge; and to do so from the cradle to the grave. The fact remains is that there can in no way be a comparison between the knowledgeable and unknowledgeable. For, the former are well prepared to: “apply their minds and the ears of their hearts to the acquisition of learning and by consequence well-informed…”; “who exercise thei intellect (and) who lift to Allah their inward sight” (39:9). ANALYSIS: Nature of cases may push swing-vote Kennedy to the opposite side this year. By Mark Sherman THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court is set to begin a term that could lead to enhanced rights for terrorism detainees, a ruling against part of a child pornography law and shorter prison terms for crack cocaine dealers. The court could add a blockbuster case to its calendar if the justices opt to take a Second Amendment case from Washington, D.C., that would test limits on the right to own guns. The third year of Chief Justice John Roberts’ tenure follows a contentious term that laid bare ideological divisions in a number of cases decided by one vote. The frustrations of liberal justices bubbled up in dissents read aloud in the courtroom. Among them was one read on the final day by Justice Stephen Breyer, who said of his conservative colleagues: “So few have so quickly changed so much.” While there could well be many more 5-4 decisions this term, a frequent participant in cases at the high court doubts that relations among justices will be as frayed. “I don’t think we’ll have anything like that this term,” said Carter Phillips, a lawyer with the Sidley Austin firm who has argued 54 cases before the justices. “It’s pretty clear that last year was a bruising term for the justices. They were pretty happy to get away from each other.” On the court’s calendar, the headline case so far involves the legal rights of Guantanamo detainees. The justices twice before have ruled that suspected terrorists held at the U.S. naval base in Cuba could pursue challenges to their indefinite confinement in U.S. civilian courts. Each time, the Bush administration and Congress, then under Republican control, have changed the law to try to limit the detainees’ rights. “This is the most generous set of procedures ever afforded to a nation’s military adversaries in the history of the world. They are, however, far short of what would be afforded a U.S. citizen caught up in the civilian justice system,” said Brad Berenson, who served under President Bush in the White House Counsel’s Office. Kennedy voted with the court’s liberals in both earlier cases; many scholars expect him to do so again. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! You’re all set! Whatever happened to the court’s march to the right? The answer, it seems safe to say, is that little has changed on the bench, where Justice Anthony Kennedy remains the decisive vote between four conservatives and four liberals. The difference with the term that begins Monday is the mix of cases that are before the justices. Instead of last term’s defining cases – abortion, race and campaign finance – in which Kennedy’s views aligned him with the conservatives, the big issues are those on which Kennedy has more often sided with the liberals. The court became more conservative with Sandra Day O’Connor’s retirement in 2006. She was replaced by Justice Samuel Alito. Looking ahead to this term’s lineup of cases, “I can’t identify a significant win for conservatives,” said Thomas Goldstein, a Washington lawyer who writes about the court and argues before it. The justices are set to tackle an array of big issues. They include the legal rights of Guantanamo detainees, the constitutionality of lethal injections for executions, photo identification cards for voters and investors’ struggle to find accountability in cases of fraud.

A businessman leading the fightback against burglars has called for the army to “stop playing card-games” and patrol Donegal’s villages and towns to protect the elderly.Tony Morning says the army must be brought onto the streets of Donegal.Tony Morning is spearheading a campaign after the recent spate of aggravated burglaries in Manor, Carrigans, St Johnston, Raphoe and other places.More than 1,500 angry people attended a meeting where a €10,000 bounty was offered leading to the arrest of the thugs behind the robberies. Last night Mr Morning, from Manorcunningham, said the army must be told to stop playing ‘snap’ at Finner Camp army base and other army bases and protect their elderly neighbours. He stressed he has no issue with the army but his gripe rests with the Government’s inaction.“The Government must give the army permission to get out onto the streets and patrol Donegal’s villages and towns.“They must allow them out of the army base where they are playing games of ‘snap’ and ‘tig’. “I have nothing against the lads in the army – it’s the Government who need to get their act together.“I know the guys in the army would be more than happy to help protect their elderly neighbours but the order must come from the Government.“The Gardai don’t have the resources but the army do and the Government should be instructing them to do it,” he said.Mr Morning was speaking following yet another burglary locally.A 77 year old man was tied up and beaten when up to three raiders burst into his home just before 7pm last night. The gang robbed the man of €1,000 and also a legally-held shotgun on Station Road in Glenties.Mr Morning condemned the latest raid but said the community must “turn the screw” on burglars.“It is terrible that another elderly person has been preyed upon but we must continue to turn the screw on these people.“We must continue to look at every avenue of protection be that text alert or having alarms an sensors put in to as many homes as possible,” he said. Open eir is delighted to announce that nominations are open for people in Donegal to enter the 2018 open eir Silver Surfer Awards. This is the second year the company will sponsor these awards, which are run in conjunction with Age Action. The awards recognise the online achievements of older people using technology as well as the volunteers who teach these skills to thousands of older people across Ireland. Recent CSO figures show that almost half of Irish people aged over 60 have never used the internet, a disturbing statistic in an increasingly online society.Open eir and Age Action are working to change this and to open up the online world for older people in Ireland. The overall aim of the open eir Silver Surfer Awards is to raise awareness among older people of the benefits of getting online and to encourage those who are not online to give it a try by celebrating those older people already showing the way. These awards also highlight the positive impact being online makes to everyday life – whether that’s learning new skills, running a business, staying in touch with family and friends or getting to grips with social media. The six categories for the 2018 open eir Silver Surfer Awards are:* The Getting Started IT Award – An older person who is new to technology and has overcome challenges to become an IT user.* Hobbies on the Net Award – An older person who uses the internet to pursue their passion or hobby, or who uses IT for communication and social networking.* Golden IT Award – An individual over the age of 80 who uses technology to enhance their life.* Community Champion IT Award – An older person who uses the internet to benefit their community locally or nationally* The IT Enthusiast Award – The ‘Give it a Go’ older person who embraces the internet or technology with a sense of fun and adventure. * IT Tutor(s) of the Year Award – An individual or group of any age who provide voluntary support to older learners.Nominations for the awards are open from today. The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 21st February 2018. Nominations can be made through the Age Action website (www.ageaction.ie). The awards ceremony takes place in eir’s Head Office, 1HSQ, on Tuesday, 17th April 2018.Speaking about the awards Michelle Toner, Head of CSR, eir said “We are delighted to partner with Age Action once again for these Awards. Having witnessed, first-hand, the amazing and inspiring things that last year’s entrants were doing online in their everyday lives, we are even more excited for the 2018 Awards.“Our mission is to get communities in Donegal and across Ireland connected and to maximise the benefits of high speed broadband. The Awards recognise and celebrate the amazing activities Silver Surfers are doing online, demonstrating the positive difference it can make. It’s great to see so many older people getting online. I would encourage everyone who is eligible to apply for the awards to do so, that way their efforts can be recognised and celebrated.” Commenting further, John Church, CEO, Age Action spoke about the benefits going online can have for older people; “The open eir Silver Surfer Awards are all about driving home the benefit of being online to older people with the aim of getting more people in Donegal to give it a go! The awards are also a platform to celebrate older people embracing the digital world and reminds us that learning is a lifelong process. Age should never be a barrier.“It is hard to believe but almost one in five adults have never used the internet – that is more than 550,000 people in Ireland and older people are the least likely to be online! We’re delighted to have open eir on board for the awards again this year. Open eir is working hard to bring broadband to communities across Ireland and supporting the Age Action team in ensuring our Silver Surfers get the most of the exciting opportunities available online.”Age Action promotes the awards through its website, social media sites, and its Ageing Matters magazine. The awards are also promoted in secondary schools, libraries, nursing homes and in parish newsletters across the country.Search launched for Donegal’s Open eir silver surfer! was last modified: November 17th, 2017 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:awardsOpen eirsilver surfer
